GOOD
SHEPHERD CENTER
218
IRON STREET SW
ALBUQUERQUE
NM 87103
OPERATED
BY:
THE LITTLE BROTHERS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD
We
ask Jesus the Good Shepherd to guide us.
Our
First Principle of Management is His Gospel.
Our Second Principle of Management is Love.
If
we do not have either one or the other of these principles, we have
nothing.

Our
Founder, Brother Mathias Barrett
GOOD SHEPHERD CENTER
|
|
Good Shepherd Center is a place of
refuge for those in need. Our love
and charity for others is what motivates us and moves those who help
us. As Brother Mathias, our Founder,
used to say, “although our motto is ‘Charity Unlimited,’ we do not give
charity,”. Rather we welcome
the unfortunate among us who have serious problems that cannot be dealt
with alone. Some of these have
physical, mental, emotional, or substance abuse problems that have left
them with few options for obtaining the normal basic necessities of life:
food, clothing, shelter, warmth, self-respect, social interaction, and
peace of mind. We provide a
stopping point along the individual journeys of these persons with special
needs where they can not only get a meal, clothing, a shower, a good nights
sleep in a warm dry place, but someone who cares about them to walk with
them a while to help them continue on a new road to a better destination.
Good Shepherd Center is a tax-exempt
501(c) (3) organization chartered in the State of New Mexico. Contributions are both tax-deductible
and welcome. Volunteers are much
sought after to do what they can within their available time, abilities,
and interests. We have volunteers
that cook casseroles in their own kitchens and we have those who help out
at the Center. We have an Auxiliary
that tries to provide help with funding and Community involvement.

MISSION STATEMENT OF GOOD SHEPHERD CENTER
|
|
Guided by the Holy Spirit and assisted
by many good-hearted people, Good Shepherd Center labors to help the poor –
especially those who no one else wants or is able to help -- to feed the
hungry, house the homeless, clothe the naked, nurse the sick, and minister
to the imprisoned.
LBGS is a religious order with
Pontifical status and public vows, originally founded in Albuquerque, NM in
1951. Our motto "Charity Unlimited" was the product of our
founder, Brother Mathias. It was his intense desire to serve the needy that
has been the cornerstone of the Order's work and service. LBGS is a tax-exempt 501 (c) (3)
religious and charitable organization listed in the Official Catholic
Directory. LBGS operates other
charitable houses in Albuquerque and around the world. LBGS welcomes inquiries about religious
vocations or companion membership programs.

MISSION STATEMENT OF
THE LITTLE BROTHERS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD

Graced into existence through the
inspiration of the Holy Spirit and the co-operation of our founder, Brother
Mathias Barrett, the religious congregation of the Little Brothers of the
Good Shepherd earnestly strives to fulfill its mission through the

Our existence as a congregation is for the glory of God, perfection of our
members, and service to the poor and needy. Charity unlimited, our
founder's legacy to his brothers, is expressed in our service,
availability, hospitality, flexibility, adaptability and respect for life.
Our life of consecration and service must continue to inspire and motivate
all who seek in involve themselves with the mission of the Little Brothers
of the Good Shepherd.
With faith and trust in God's providence, we pledge ourselves to strive
always to.
Proclaim the good news of Jesus
Christ,
clothe the naked,
house the homeless,
feed the hungry,
comfort the lonely, and
promote human dignity.

YOU ARE NEEDED
|
|
People often ask "what can I do to
help?” Donations of money, goods,
services, clothing, and canned goods will go a long way. But it won’t go the full way. We need community prayers,
encouragement, and support for our work.
There are many people who do not see the value in non-governmental
charities. Some people
unfortunately do not see any reason to help others at all. Without your speaking up, Good Shepherd
Center could be moved to an out-of-the-way location, or even closed. To those who may judge our work
negatively, all we would ask is for you to come and visit us to judge what
we do here first hand. If only you
could talk with John, who feels that no one really cares and that he must
face his problems alone. Or with
Jose, who is homeless and unemployed, simply because he does not want to
loose the meager government benefits he is getting. A good way to show support is to
volunteer your time. This could
include everything from baking casseroles, to helping with the annual St.
Patrick’s Day Dinner to serving in the kitchen on holidays. Volunteering for our Auxiliary is an
excellent way to participate within a congenial social setting. For those who are looking for a long
term commitment to their less fortunate neighbors and are drawn to the community
life of the Brothers, there are many vocation options available, ranging
from living with us for a short time to companion membership, to becoming a
Brother or Brother Priest in a full vocation to the religious life. Contact us if you would like more
information.
